Why Floridians love their NFL team, but it won’t play for another 10 years
In a rare move, the Florida Gators have announced that they will not play a single game at the University of Florida’s Gator Bowl on the date previously set for the 2018 season.
Florida Gators football will instead be played at the Orlando Citrus Bowl in the same location, which will be played as the home of the Orlando Magic on Dec. 4.
“As a result of the recent agreement with the University, we will be playing our home games at the Citrus bowl in Orlando, Florida,” the school said in a statement.
The decision came in a letter sent to the Gators fans by Gators athletics director Mark Coyle on Monday afternoon. “
We thank the University for the opportunity to play our home football games at their home stadium and wish them well in the future.”

The letter also said the Gators would continue to take part in ACC tournaments as a part-time member, and the University would “continue to be a partner of the College Football Playoff.”
In December, the university announced it was moving to a new facility at Florida Stadium in Gainesville, which would be the home for the Gators basketball team, football team, and soccer team.
The university announced that the school would begin to phase out its student-run student-led sports teams, such as the men’s soccer team, beginning in 2018.
“The Florida Gators are proud to be an ACC member, a member of the Big 12 Conference, and a part owner of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, a premier collegiate athletics program in the United States,” Florida University President John Thrasher said in the letter.
The University has always provided a welcoming and welcoming environment to all of our students, our faculty, our staff and fans, and we are pleased to be able to continue to do so. “
To be a part in the ACC, Florida Gators, and their fans, we are very grateful.
The Gators football team has always been a great partner of our university and we look forward to continuing that relationship moving forward.” “
Athletes, coaches, student-athletes, staff, alumni, supporters, and our fans have come together to create a shared passion for the game of football at Florida.

The Florida Gators lost their opening game to Notre Dame on Oct. 25.
The Orange defeated Miami on Oct 12.
The game was a blowout, and fans were angered by the team’s decision to not play its home opener for the first time in its history.
The team’s next home game will be against the Florida Panthers on Dec 11.
“I think it’s a little bit of a bittersweet, the fact that we have been unable to get to that next game and it’s been a lot of years since we’ve had that opportunity,” said Miami quarterback Blake Bortles, who will be looking to make his third start of the season.
“I think that will be the biggest disappointment to see that game, especially when you think about the history of this team, the way it’s played over the years, and I think people will be really upset.
It’s tough for us, but we’re going to take it day by day.
We’ll be ready to play the game, and if we’re not able to play, it’ll be great for the fans.
We’re just going to keep going.”
